Long ago i asked about sables and how to get sables, was curious if the same standard stands true for getting browns in litters? like they would have to have tan points some where in the pedigree? or is achieving solid browns different?

No, chocolate is not the same as sable. Chocolate is a base coat color. Chocolate is recessive so you need each parent to carry one copy of the gene. However, because it is recessive, if the parent's are only carrying one copy, they will not be chocolate colored themselves.

If you want to know more about coat colors you will probably find this very helpful. It is about english cockers and they split recently enough that the genetics of the basic coat colors is the same even though the nomenclature is different (liver = chocolate)
