Could anyone give me some tips regarding what settings I should use if I want to take outdoors pictures (sunny day) of Charlie and his girlfriend (who is a super black cocker spaniel)?

I don't know much about photography and I don't use any editing software. I would like to know what your recommendations are if I want to achieve vibrant colors (Jim Zim style :gig

)? I know I learned a lot just by playing with the settings but what are the best options?

Oh, I'm using a Nikon D3000 camera.

Black dogs are hard to photograph. It is helpful to use water (blue) as a background. Outdoor photos are usually best before 10 or 11 a.m. Sometimes it is by trial and error. Take a pad and pen with you. Mark the time of day and the photo (I guess most cameras do that), the apeture, F-stop (if not automatically set) and film speed.

Thanks for the tips Terry. We were planning on trying to make them swim in our pool so this could be a good time to take good shots of Bailey. She loves the water, it shouldn't be a big problem.
