Yesterday a very special dog passed away. She was just a joy and although she was never mine, I felt compelled to write a little tribute to her. If any of you are intersted in reading about a particularly endearing, special dog, you can find her tribute here. Thank you!

Thank You for caring so much for a dog that needs special attention. In reading your blog anyone can see that Alvin is a special needs pup with many problems and needs that only a special person can give him. When I read how you have figured out why Alvin does a particular quirk like his whirling dervish it show's that your that one person in his life who has him figured out. I agree that your mom may love him and not be the best choice for Alvin because of his need to for nose contact with her. It sounds like he needs to touch her to make sure she is ok in his world and that touching her eases his tension and worry about her safety.
I for one think if nothing else you and your mom to come to an agreement with a 50/50 custody agreement. lol

Awww, thanks Dawn for your sweet and witty observations. I know one thing, I will never come across a dog like Alvin again. He's truly one in at least a billion.

Janet, what a lovely tribute to Cali. You were definately self less in giving Cali up to be an extra special love in her adoptive moms life. Your service to these dogs that need extra love and maybe the first love they have ever known, is tremendous. I too work in the social services arena, and have fostered and adopted many a spaniel, but there are those special ones that grab your heart and never let go. Thank you for honoring and rescuing those little dear hearts :love

In the case of Cali, I didn't do anything, other than fall in love with her like everyone else. She had a wonderful foster family that took care of her for six months and then she went to her adoptive mom where she was treated like a queen. Her former foster mom drove over two hours to be with Cali and her adoptive mom when they put her to sleep. Two really loving, special women!
