I'm putting this under Performance because I think those of us who train for this purpose may be most affected by this information.

There has been a discussion on Facebook regarding colors used on bars and how that affects dogs dropping bars. Recently a judge mentioned how there was pink tape on a triple and 90% of dogs dropped those bars. She changed the bars to another color, I think it was blue and the bar dropping of that particular triple stopped.

Star's double has red tape, her triple has blue tape I have not noticed a difference and she does seem to jump differently when using the double as opposed to a single jump.

Here is some information that I found:

The eye color chart is interesting as well as the one that shows their peripheral vision and how that expands so much more than hours. Now I understand why trainers say that they have eyes on their backs! :wink

Very interesting!

Perhaps this explains why Chessie kept losing me at class the other night...
I was wearing a green shirt! :tg

I wonder if it would be best to wear clothing in the deep blue tones to agility trails? What about our skin? They must be able to see it since they respond to hand signals.

My opinion and observation, with no scientific research behind it to support it, is that these charts cannot be totally accurate but just give us an idea of what they see. As someone mentioned on FB, if a dog is running on soccer turf and supposedly they can't see green and the bars are white, then how do they see where they are supposed to go? I think that they have to see way more than what we think!
