Poor sweetie! I sure don't have any ideas, but I hope you can figure it out so you can pass your test.

Oh, Sadie, cockers are such velcro dogs that many of us cocker moms would have better luck getting our dogs to fly than being left alone for a few minutes. Oliver passed every station of the CGC when he was but ten months old, except the last one ... he cried for his mama too. All I can offer is practice, practice, practice. Love you, sweetie!

Hi Sadie,

I'd recommend Dr. Karen Overall's Protocol for Relaxation - you can pull it up with a google search. It's not exactly quick, but it's definitely sucessful. I've used it with my reactive girl and her "stay" is the best of my 3 dogs, regardless of distractions. Our instructor had me start out just rewarding Lady for relaxing (sitting, laying down, and eventually flipping onto one hip without moving her feet) on a mat of some kind. Then we started with day one. At first you just move one step away, but it progresses to moving further away and then out of sight for longer and longer periods. There are other distractions included, but I'm sure you could modify it for your purposes.

And the mat won't be required once she works through it. Now, it's almost a relaxation command for Lady. I tell her "place" and she'll flop down anywhere - with or without her mat.

Best of luck!
Lisa

We have a dalmation in my class that is the same way. He has overcome it by leaving the dog with one of us and we just use her focus word, and feed her tons of food. The dog no longer whines when her owner is out of sight.

Thanks everyone. We have until tomorrow night....

I have taken her to the exact place where her test will be to practice various things. I have been leaving her with her leash around a fire hydrant. I disappear around the building, but stand where I can keep an eye on her. Other than the 3-year old darling girl who wanted to "take her for a walk," she appeared to do fine. You should have seen me running back before the little girl undid her leash! :ROFL

I have wanted to ask others in the class to hold her for me, but I have felt their hands were busy with their own pups.

Oh, also, on the 30 minute drive to the park, I have been playing the CD that Aunti Cindy got her - it is a dog relaxation tape.

Keep your fingers crossed - we're really working hard! :paw :paw
