The neighbors at my new home complained that I have way too many dogs. Fortunately I am not too " attached " to them yet so I am gladly getting rid of the neighbors! House will be for sale soon!

Is there a limit where you live? Most places do have them.

Yes there is a limit of two, I have 4, but before I bought this place I talked to the animal control officer and he told me that they do not enforce the law unless someone calls to complain. So to avoid future aggravation we decided that it would be much easier to get rid of the neighbors than the dogs. Besides that, who needs a winter place when one has three cocker spaniels to warm you all over all year long!

Act quickly. One complaint broke up our happy home.

Boy am I with you! I just lost my boy Tux because he bit a neighbor (I might have done it for him if given the chance). Unfortunately our covenants forced him out but if the house across the street hadn't been for sale for 3 years ours would have gone on the market immediately. God bless our cocker rescue that knows he's not really a "biter" and will rehome him. I'm still in tears several times a day. I miss my boy!

Glad to know I am not alone.....already called a few realtors for a market analyzes looks like the market is doing better and we will come out of it ok even though we only had the place for less than two years. I am sorry you had it worse than us but I truly believe that his hurtful words will haunt him, and others like him, someday.

We have been looking for a snowbird home in Florida for awhile now, most of the places have a 2 dog limit. Well we found a development that allows 5 dogs! Yes, we just bought a house there! Hubby went for the closing and there are dogs everywhere-sounds like we will fit right in! They have lots of nature walking paths that bikes and golf carts are not allowed, I think because everyone walks their dogs along the paths. Although for the next 3 years we can only go on school vacations, then when our son goes to college we can be there for 6 months. Oh darn no more shovelling snow!

Oh Marcia your neighbors must be real jewels....JERKS. I can't imagine. Here the limit is 3 and I have been over that a few times. Thankfully nobody ever complained.

Darn it ... when I saw the title I was going to put my dibs on Blu :gig He and Sky would make such a striking blue eyed pair. Glad to see that you worked out the perfect compromise.

My boyfriend told me I couldn't have more dogs than bedrooms :gig Good thing I have a five bedroom house :ROFL That means I can have a couple foster cockers around as situations dictate. :YAY My only problem is that I need a bigger bed as Sky likes to sprawl out in the middle  I tried giving Sky his own bedroom, he wasn't amused.

As for those pesky neighbors, I agree ... real jerks.

The interesting thing is that we bought the house because there was only one neighbor and that was an empty lot. I tracked him down and made several reasonable offers explaining I wanted the space for my 4 dogs to run to their hearts content. He would not compromise. To my surprise he built a house there and after a little while I started listening about the city and pet ordinances finally he screamed all kinds of nasty things because the dogs barked at him while he walked around the fence line at night, the dogs were out for their bathroom break. So we decided it was not worth the trouble to try to reason with an unreasonable person. We feel good about our decision, better the snow than live such a kind of stressful life.

Just saw you note. Good you do not have to dump the boyfriend for the "kid's" sake. I am sure you would love Blu, if he was available. He is a cuddler, so he would not take too much space either, he loves to be on your lap and gives me a lot of kisses for any single thing I do. Would give up anything for my fur babies. Fostering can be fun. Hope you enjoy it.

I certainly hope you have better luck than us. One of our neighbors reported the boys for barking noise. Animal control came to the house and knocked on the door. This caused Lexi and Molly to bark. They left us a summons of noise, and over the limit. When I called they gave me 1 week to get rid of two of the dogs or they would be out on Friday to seize them.

We had to say good bye to Tyson and Jasper on Saturday.

I hate people. I find that in general they are mean and spiteful. They lie and love to create drama. They cause people to loose those that mean the most to them.

I am still very bitter and hurt. My husband and I spend around $400 per month on our dogs. They are loved and well cared for. Yet others who are within the limit can leave their dogs outside and are neglected. Ours were very healthy and happy.

I have to admire your attitude that it's easier to get new neighbors. That's cute. Is your new home in Logan? You mentioned a winter house.

WTG - your pups have gotta love you!

Alas, it must be something about blue-eyed cockers and laps. Sky is half sprawled over my lap right now. Sky loves to cuddle and is my velcro cocker :love Not be left out, Vivi is sleeping draped over my feet right now. Uh oh.. I am being held captive by cockers again  Thankfully a few treats and kisses will get me free. Yeah... I would definitely move if I had to give them up.

I agree that if it were between the house and the kids, I would be putting up a "for sale" sign too. Thankfully, the market is much better than a few months ago. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a quick and profitable sale for you :joy

After reading some of the responses, I am happy with my neighbors. I feel so bad for Donna. My heart breaks for her and her fur-kids. Hello! Knock on my door and you will hear lots of barking :bang :bang

Donna and Karen........... my heart breaks for you. :cry I couldn't imagine being forced to send away my babies because of "people" whining. I'm sooooooooooooooo thankful I live in the country with no close neighbors and don't have to deal with anything like that. I just don't understand the mean spirit of some. They WILL reap what they sow.

Marcia.......I wish you speedy and great success with the sale of your house.

Thanks you guys! I can't imagine my life without any of my kids, I am sorry you had to make such a painful choice.
The winter location is Saint George now we will plan to "bloom where we are planted" and just be happy in Logan.
I Love my puppies and no one is going to make give them away!

While I understand the need for limits to control hoarding, its really hard to take. Also, I think of heard of extremely restrictive laws on barking that are punitive if a dog barks more than just a little bit each day, I mean a really little bit. After all, I want my dogs to bark if there is an intruder or unwanted sales people. One of my dreams would be to design a dog and pet friendly subdivision with houses with pet friendly flooring, secure doggy doors to dog yards attached to a utility entrance so rover can access the house at will. (I hate it when people brag they have a dog yard and I find it is wedged behind the garage a long way from the house with no shade for a poor neglected yard dog.) In my subdivision I'd want, pull out pocket doggy gates within the house to allow dogs to be confined or released from multiple areas in the house for those with dogs that need a "safe area" when left alone or if they need a quiet space from other pets during a veterinary recovery. Walking paths would weave around the subdivision with convenient cans for pickup bags, a pond for retrieving, one or two fenced off leash areas with available agility equipment in a storage shed. Pic nic tables here and there and a combined dog treat bakery and people bakery/espresso shop. Also a 24 hour vet clinic for emergencies, and grooming salon/people beautician & barber. Ah the dreams!

I am very happy that in my town we have a 10 dog limit. After that you have to have a breeder's license. I imagine if you had wild, uncontrolled barking for several hours a day there would be some sort of "quality of life" complaints though.

My town has NO LIMIT to the number of dogs I can have. If I want 100 - I can as long as there are no complaints. To me this is wrong - as it is a recipe for disaster - people hoarding, back yard breeders, not caring for them properly, etc..

Marcia,
If you in Saint George in Oct/Nov you should come to tracking camp. It is held 20 miles West of Cedar City.

If my house is not sold by then and I am not living in that new dream development to be built as described above. I will be glad to go. What is the camp all about? Send me more info as you receive them.
