Years ago, during a Pupapalooza on our front lawn, Julia Navarro made a comment about how much she admired the Hydrangea bushes in our yard. So, every year since then, I have posted a new picture of them here on the forum for all to see. They're at their peak of beauty right now... so here's the 2012 version of the Hydrangea photo!

We have nothing so spectacular in our yard right now. It's been a dry summer so far and I'm lucky to keep my annuals alive.

That lettuce looks delicious. Look at all those tomato blossoms ~ your gonna have a bumper crop! Still love your "wall"; it is filling in beautifully!

Hydrangeas are a favorite! Striking in any color but fun when you get colors on one bush. Thanks for sharing such a lovely example.

I am having serious Hydrangea envy here. such a gorgeous flower.

Thanks for the lovely photo Jim. My grandmother had hydrangeas years ago - they were a purpleish blue. They were beautiful. I might try some in my yard one day. I know they don't do well here in Florida - but for some reason hers were abundant.

your hydrangea's are beautiful Jim I just have lots of leaves right now, mine will be blooming in a few weeks I can't wait to see the first blooms.

Your Hydrangeas are beautiful. Right now we have 100's of day lilies blooming. Since I can't post a photo of all of them I made a collage of a few of our new ones.

I have to admit when I first saw your pictures, I assumed it was your cool coastal breezes that helped make it so pretty - mine just dry up and die here! - but then my brother just sent me pictures of his, also huge and covered in blossoms. He lives just west of Redding, in the extremes of both summer and winter temperatures, so that blew my whole theory! Apparently, they are more versatile than I thought, but that still doesn't explain why I can't grow them!

I also look forward to Jim's hydrangia picture.

Living in Redding I never thought a hydrangia would grow. A friend gave me one to cheer me up during radiation therapy. It was a little pink plant in a huge pot. After suffering 4 years of "plant abuse" (living against all odds) I have a very pretty plant full of blooms and I have no idea why
My family saw it grow and have blessed me with more First step is I almost kill them transplanting them to a bigger pot. If they survive that ( all of them so far have survived ) then they live happily to winter. When winter comes I throw a sheet over them if they are large or a trash bag if they are small enough. I ignore them through the wilnter and wait until a magic monent they call to me to uncover them. Then I see green sprouting buds and I know I will have another year to love my bushes and look forward to Jim's picture causing me to imagine " What if ?"
